What is dry ice blasting?
Dry ice blasting is an advanced cleaning method that utilizes solid carbon dioxide (CO2) pellets as the blasting media. It’s also known as CO2 blasting or cryogenic blasting. Here’s how it works:
Preparation: Dry ice pellets, which are made by compressing and then extruding liquid CO2, are loaded into a blasting machine.
Acceleration: Compressed air is used to accelerate the dry ice pellets to high speeds.
Impact: The accelerated dry ice pellets are directed at the surface to be cleaned. Upon impact, they sublimate (transition directly from a solid to a gas), creating mini-explosions that lift away contaminants from the surface.
Cleaning: The combination of kinetic energy from the high-speed pellets and the thermal shock from the sublimation process effectively removes dirt, coatings, grease, adhesives, and other contaminants from a variety of surfaces.
